After a satisfying breakfast, our journey continues towards Lachen, unveiling the beauty of small villages and valleys, leading us through the enchanting forest grove of Kabi Lungchok. Our next destination is Shinghik, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic Kanchenjunga. Perched at an altitude exceeding 4000ft, Shinghik provides a welcome respite to travellers en route to Lachen. We’ll enjoy a delightful lunch along the way and make a stop at Chungthang, where the rivers Lachen Chu and Lachung Chu converge, accompanied by mesmerizing waterfalls. Early morning, head out for a scenic drive to Thangu Village (4100m / 13450ft), a remote high-altitude village inhabited by Tibetan Nomads. Proceed further to Chopta Valley (4000m / 13124ft) and soak in the breathtaking views of alpine valleys with frozen rivers. Drive an additional 30kms in 1.5 hours to reach the awe-inspiring Gurudongmar Lake (5225m / 17143ft), located close to the Tibet Border. This lake is one of the highest and largest freshwater lakes in Sikkim. Watch as the horizon transforms into a vibrant canvas, showcasing the majestic Himalayan range, including the iconic peaks like Kangchenjunga and Mount Everest. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the golden hues that blanket the entire mountain range. On your way back, catch a glimpse of the 15-foot-tall image of the mythical Buddha at Ghoom Monastery, the oldest in the area. Return to your hotel for a delicious breakfast.

After breakfast, embark on a city tour, beginning with the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed on Thursdays). This renowned institute was founded by Tenzing Norgay after his historic ascent of Mount Everest. Explore the institute’s rich history and exhibits. Next, visit the Zoological Park (closed on Thursdays) to admire the diverse wildlife, including rare Himalayan species. Proceed to the Tibetan Refugee Centre (closed on Sundays) to learn about the vibrant Tibetan culture and witness traditional craftsmanship. Make a stop at Tenzing Rock and Gombu Rock, famous for their rock-climbing routes. Finally, drive by the Tea Estate, marvelling at the lush tea gardens.
