Where Hornbill Festival drums echo through Nagaland and Dzukou Valley’s silence waits beyond.

Hornbill Festival Tour Packages 2026 | 5 Night 6 Day Complete Nagaland Tour with Dzukou Valley @ Just ₹21,999/-

By the BreakBag Travel Team

Hornbill Festival tour packages 2026: six days of festival, Khonoma and Dzukou, just ₹21,999.

Ask anyone who has been to Nagaland in December what they remember most, and you'll rarely get one answer. Some talk about the thunder of the log drums at Kisama. Others talk about the old man in Khonoma who explained, over black tea, why his village stopped hunting. And the ones who made it to Dzukou Valley usually just go quiet and show you a sunrise photo.

Our Hornbill Festival tour packages 2026 are built so you don't have to choose. In five nights and six days from Dimapur, you get the full Hornbill Festival at Kisama, the green village of Khonoma, the Kohima War Cemetery, and an overnight trek to Dzukou Valley. It all costs ₹21,999 per person, with stays, meals, transfers and a trek guide included.

Below is everything you need: why this combination works, the full day-by-day plan, what the price covers, what the Dzukou trek is really like in December, the mistakes first-timers make, and how to reach Nagaland from anywhere in India or abroad.

Why Our Hornbill Festival Tour Package 2026 with Dzukou Wins

The 27th Hornbill Festival takes place from December 1 to 10, 2026 at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, about 12 km from Kohima. Most tour operators sell it as a short festival-only trip. We think that leaves half of Nagaland on the table.

Here's why travellers keep choosing our package:

  • The lowest price for this much trip. Many 5–7 day Hornbill group tours for this December are priced well above ₹30,000, often without a trek. Ours includes Dzukou Valley for ₹21,999.
  • You sleep where the festival is. We base you in a traditional Angami homestay at Kigwema, minutes from Kisama. No crawling through festival traffic from Kohima every morning.
  • Festival and nature in one trip. Two to three days of Hornbill, then a night under the stars in Dzukou Valley at around 2,400 metres. Few trips in India give you that contrast.
  • Local people run it. We work directly with Naga homestay families, drivers and certified trek guides, with no middle agents. That's how we keep the price low and the experience genuine.
  • Everything handled. Permits guidance, homestays, meals, transfers and the trek guide are all arranged by one team.
  • Trusted by travellers. [20,000+] guests have travelled with BreakBag, rated [4.9/5] on Google.

If you want the most Nagaland for your money and your leave, this is the Hornbill Festival trip 2026 to book.

Dzukou Valley Trek in December: Weather, Difficulty & Tips

Dzukou Valley lies on the Nagaland–Manipur border, a short drive from Kigwema. Here's what the trek is honestly like during festival season.

Weather. December is dry and clear, the best month for long views across the hills. Walking during the day feels cool and comfortable. After sunset, the temperature drops sharply, and nights in the valley can hover around freezing. Morning frost on the grass is common.

How it looks. Forget the bright green photos from the monsoon. In December, the meadows turn gold and rust-brown, and at sunrise the whole valley glows. The famous Dzukou lily flowers in summer, so you won't see it on this trip.

Difficulty: easy to moderate. If you walk regularly, you'll manage comfortably. The only tough part is the first hour or so from Viswema, a steady uphill on uneven steps. The ridge after that is gentle. Plan on roughly [4–5] hours to the valley at a relaxed pace, with breaks.

Quick tips for the trek:

  • Start early so you reach the valley in daylight.
  • Layer up instead of wearing one heavy jacket. You'll warm up fast while climbing.
  • Carry a head torch. Evenings in the valley are dark.
  • Pack light: a 20–30 litre day pack is enough for one night.
  • Walk at your own pace. Our guide sets a steady rhythm for the group.

Common Mistakes to Avoid on a Hornbill Festival Trip

We've run Hornbill trips for years, and the same avoidable mistakes come up every season. Skip these, and your trip will be far smoother.

  1. Booking too late. Stays near Kisama fill up weeks before December 1. Last-minute travellers end up commuting from Dimapur or paying double in Kohima.
  2. Forgetting the Inner Line Permit. Indian travellers from outside Nagaland need an ILP. Apply online at least two weeks ahead. Don't leave it for the airport.
  3. Packing for a city break. Kohima nights are cold, and Dzukou is colder. Bring thermals, a warm jacket, a cap, gloves and real trekking shoes.
  4. Trying to see all ten days. You don't need to. Two or three well-chosen festival days, plus Khonoma and Dzukou, gives you far more than ten days in the same crowd.
  5. Arriving in Dimapur late. The hill road is best driven in daylight. Land before noon on Day 1.
  6. Relying only on UPI. Network at Kisama and in the villages can be patchy. Carry cash in small notes for food stalls and crafts.
  7. Skipping the trek guide. Trails into Dzukou split in the forest, and mist can roll in quickly. Always walk with a local guide. Ours is included.
  8. Photographing people without asking. Morung families and performers are usually happy to pose, but a smile and a quick "may I?" goes a long way.

For the permit process step by step, read our Hornbill Festival ILP permit guide.
