Book Now Hotselling Hornbill Festival with Dzukou Valley Trek 2026 @ Just ₹29,999/-
By the BreakBag Travel TeamDance with seventeen Naga tribes at Kisama, then wake above the clouds in Dzukou Valley. Book Hornbill Festival with Dzukou Valley 2026 at ₹29,999.
There's a moment on the Dzukou ridge, just after the last steep stretch of the climb, when the forest suddenly falls away. Below you, an endless valley of rolling hills folds into the mist, silent except for the wind. A day earlier you were standing in the middle of the Hornbill Festival, surrounded by log drums, war cries and the smell of smoked pork. Nagaland gives you both, and that's exactly what this trip is built around.
Most people visit the Hornbill Festival for two days and fly home. Our Hornbill Festival with Dzukou Valley trek package adds what they miss: Nagaland's most famous trek, a night in the valley, and the green village of Khonoma, all in one 6-day trip from Dimapur for ₹29,999.
Below you'll find the full day-by-day itinerary, exactly what's included, what the Dzukou Valley trek is really like in December, and how to reach Nagaland from anywhere in India or abroad.
Why Hornbill Festival with Dzukou Valley Beats a Festival-Only Trip
The Hornbill Festival 2026 runs from December 1 to 10 at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, near Kohima. It's loud, colourful and packed, and that's the fun of it. But after two days of crowds, most travellers say the same thing: "I wish I'd seen the quieter side of Nagaland too."
Dzukou Valley is that quieter side. It sits at around 2,400 metres on the Nagaland–Manipur border, about an hour's drive from Kisama. Pairing the two gives you a trip with real contrast.
- Culture, then nature. Days at the festival morungs, followed by a night under the stars in one of Northeast India's most beautiful valleys.
- Better value for your leave. You're already in Kohima for the festival. Adding Dzukou costs a fraction of a separate trekking trip later.
- Fewer crowds, more stories. While festival-only groups queue at Kisama's gate, you'll be walking ridgelines with almost no one else around.
- Khonoma included. The Angami village famous for protecting its forests completes the picture of Naga life.
- One team, one booking. Permits, homestays, trek guides and transfers are all handled by our local team in Nagaland.
Short on time? Our 5-day Hornbill Festival tour package 2026 at ₹21,999 covers the festival without the trek. But if you can spare one extra day, this is the trip people remember longest. Over 50+ travellers joined our Hornbill and Dzukou departures last season, and that's why we call it our hotselling Nagaland festival and trekking tour.

Dzukou Valley Trek in December: Weather, Difficulty & Mistakes
The Dzukou Valley trek in December is a completely different experience from the green monsoon photos you've probably seen online. Here's what to honestly expect.
Weather. December brings dry, clear skies and the best long-distance views of the year. Days on the trail are cool and pleasant for walking. Nights in the valley are cold, often near or below freezing, and you may wake up to frost on the grass.
What the valley looks like. In winter, the meadows turn golden-brown rather than green. Many trekkers think it's even more beautiful this way, especially at sunrise. The famous Dzukou lily blooms in summer, not December, so don't plan this trip for the flowers.
Difficulty: easy to moderate. Anyone with reasonable fitness can do it. The hardest part is the first climb from the Viswema trailhead, a steep, steady stretch through bamboo forest. After that, the ridge walk is gentle. Expect roughly [4–5] hours to reach the valley at an easy pace. If you can climb 10–12 floors of stairs without stopping, you're ready.
Common mistakes to avoid:
- Packing for the festival, not the trek. You need proper trekking shoes with grip, not sneakers.
- Underestimating the night cold. Carry thermals, a down or heavy fleece jacket, a woollen cap and gloves.
- Starting late. Begin the climb early so you reach the valley well before sunset. Dusk on the ridge gets cold fast.
- Carrying too much. Take only a day pack. Leave the rest of your luggage at the Kigwema homestay.
- Skipping water and snacks. There are no shops on the trail. Carry at least 1.5 litres of water and some energy snacks.
- Trekking without a local guide. Trails fork in the forest, and mist can roll in quickly. Our certified guide stays with the group throughout.
For a full breakdown of the two trails, read our Viswema vs Zakhama route guide. And complete details on the trek itself, our Dzukou Valley trek 2026 guide covers routes, cost and difficulty in depth And what we should we carry during our Dzukou Valley Trek.

Permits for international travellers. Foreign nationals must register on arrival in Nagaland and may need a Protected Area Permit. Travel insurance. It isn't mandatory, but we strongly recommend a policy that covers trekking, especially for international guests.
