Set on a ridge above Paro's great dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan occupies Ta Dzong, a striking conch-shaped watchtower raised in the 17th century to defend the fortress below. Its curving galleries lead you through Bhutanese art and culture — luminous thangka paintings, intricate textiles, ancient armour, ritual bronzes, stamps and natural-history displays — each room revealing another layer of the kingdom's story. As one of the most absorbing museums in Bhutan, Ta Dzong Paro also rewards you with commanding views over the Paro valley from its terraces.
