In the capital, the National Institute for Zorig Chusum is a working school where students train in the Zorig Chusum, the thirteen traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. Wander its studios and you'll watch apprentices absorbed in thangka painting, woodcarving, clay sculpture, embroidery and more, learning skills passed down over centuries. The quiet concentration, the scent of pigment and timber, and the sight of masterpieces taking shape make for a genuinely moving encounter with Bhutanese arts and crafts.
