Gangtey Nature Trail
From the monastery on the hill, a gentle path drifts down through pine and wildflower meadow to the wide green floor of the valley, where cranes wade in the distant wetlands.
One of the loveliest easy hikes in Bhutan, the Gangtey Nature Trail is a gentle, mostly downhill walk through the Phobjikha valley. Beginning near the hilltop Gangtey Goenpa monastery, it descends through fragrant blue-pine forest and a flower meadow, past a small chorten and a village, before opening onto the broad valley floor and its crane wetlands. Taking around 90 minutes, it needs little effort yet rewards you with birdsong, grazing cattle, prayer flags and sweeping valley views. For hiking in Phobjikha and an unhurried Phobjikha valley walk, the Gangtey Nature Trail Phobjikha is among the finest things to do in Phobjikha. Gangtey Nature Trail Bhutan suits walkers of all abilities. Plan your route via the official Bhutan Tourism portal: bhutan.travel.
Late October to February to pair the walk with crane season; spring brings wildflowers and mild weather.
Walk it downhill from Gangtey monastery to the valley floor and arrange a vehicle to meet you at the end, so it's almost entirely gentle descent — go in the morning for the clearest light, wear comfortable shoes, and carry a warm layer as the valley stays cool.
This attraction can be easily woven into BreakBag Holidays' customised Bhutan tour packages, pairing the Gangtey Nature Trail with Phobjikha Valley, the Crane Centre and Gangtey monastery.
