Bagra & Darka Villages

A short drive from Aalo, two Adi villages open a window onto a way of life that has changed little in generations.

Tucked into the hills around Aalo, Bagra village and neighbouring Darka are among the most rewarding of the Adi tribal villages near Aalo/Along. Here, traditional stilted homes of timber and bamboo cluster along the slopes, smoke curling from kitchen hearths where fish and meat cure slowly over the fire. Chickens scatter across swept courtyards, elders weave cane by hand, and the terraced fields fall away toward the river below. Best time to visit

October to April for clear skies and comfortable village walks; time it with the Adi harvest festival Mopin (spring) for song, dance and rice-beer hospitality.

Always greet elders first and ask before stepping into a home or photographing anyone — a small courtesy that opens doors here. If you're offered apong (local rice beer), accepting even a sip is a gesture of respect that locals warmly appreciate.
